So you start a new venture and you need IT. Well you need email, ability to share calendars and contact information between employees and possibly 3rd parties, you need to have access to everything from any PC with a web browser, you want to be able to store your files on-line, you want to be able to sync it all with your mobile phone, you want to use your company name so it looks more professional than hotmail.com. OH and you want it for free. Well it’s here and it’s called Google Apps. Free from any IT support in setting up Peer1 in the UK I got up and running in hours. Migrated my old Gmail account over, synced with the windows mobile powered HTC HD. Shared my diary with those who need access to book me meetings. Ah but what about off-line working. Well the email and calendar now work off line as well! You can use Outlook (which I do on my laptop) as well so you don’t need to learn new software if you don’t want. Cost for up to 50 employees – zero. Google bought Postini a while back so it also comes with free anti spam filtering which means I don’t get any offers to enhance my manhood or spoof emails from my bank or even any emails from Nigeria about several million pounds I can have. It great when stuff just works!
